An effective product to use on bloodstains (especially if they are not too old), is hydrogen peroxide.

In a spray bottle, mix 50 ml of hydrogen peroxide with 500 ml of normal water. Add two tablespoons of castile/Marseilles soap and a drop or two of dishwashing liquid. If you want, you can also add a spoonful of sodium percarbonate. Shake everything up well and spray on the stain, giving it a good soaking .

Then, get a soft bristled brush (like the ones used for shoes, for example) and scrub the stain to lift the dirt. Also, have a soft, moist cloth at the ready for dabbing and to remove any soap and dirt. Rinse and wring out this cloth as often as needed, and keep alternating between using the brush and the cloth until you've removed the stain.

The method will inevitably wet mattress, so it's best to do this in the morning so there is time for it to dry (or you can use a hairdryer or wet-vac to speed up the drying process).

If you have to deal with stains caused by dogs or cats, in addition to the above remedy, you can try using enzymatic detergents for this type of cleaning.
