Whenever we enter any room of the house, and if we are greeted by a welcome aroma, it is always a pleasant sensation. The essential first step to ensure this is to ensure a thorough cleaning of various environments and surfaces in the home. However, sometimes, this is not enough. In fact, if there are some aromas that promote our well-being and put us in a good mood.

For this reason, various types of room fragrances can be bought and used: sprays, oils, scented candles and more. Among the most long-lasting are perfume sticks - those that soak up an aromatised oil and spread its pleasant smell throughout the room for days. There are many on the market, but the best ones are very expensive. So why not try creating your own using custom blends? It's easy, cheap and allows you to develop the bouquet of perfumes you prefer!

  • A glass or ceramic container in which you will place the perfume and the sticks. It can be a vase, a jar, an old perfume bottle... whatever you prefer. It is preferable that it has a narrow opening. And of course, you can also recycle your used perfume sticks.
  • Essential oils you like.
  • A carrier oil as a base. Generally, mineral oil is used, but you can also use sweet almond or jojoba oil. Alternatively, there are some recipes that replace the oils with a mix of water (preferably distilled) and pure vodka (low quality, unflavoured). In this latter case, there is the disadvantage that the perfume evaporates sooner, so maybe you will need to make a larger quantity.
  • Suitable sticks or wooden skewers. You can use bamboo, or even recycle some old perfume sticks.

Preparation is really simple.

  • With oil: Pour 70% of the carrier oil and 30% of the essential oil into your chosen container. For example, two tablespoons of carrier oil for every tablespoon of essential oil. If you want to mix more essential oils, then multiply proportionally (two teaspoons, one for each aroma) or find the blend you like best: the important thing is that the essential oils are always a little less than a third of the whole mixture.
  • With water and vodka: use about 60 ml of water, add a couple of tablespoons of vodka, and finally 12-15 drops of essential oil.

Mix well by shaking the container (if you can close it in some way so as not to spill anything) and then you just need to insert the sticks and enjoy the scent they will give off for days. Turn the sticks upside down after a few minutes the first time you use them, and then you'll only have to do this again once every week or every 10 days.
