During the Christmas holidays, many of us decorate our gardens and terraces to celebrate the festivities and imbue passers-by with the Yuletide spirit.

Decorating your outdoor flower pots, boxes and planters is a great way to help spread the joy and magic of Christmas and even if you're not a skilled "green thumb", you can still set up original, creative arrangements to give your entryway, garden and windowsills a festive look.

Below, we provide some unique ideas that you can consider for decorating your outdoor areas this Christmas:

1. Small, but colorful

If you're not into taking care of plants or don't have the time, using small pots of miniature Christmas trees with green garlands draped over the front door or window sills, could be right for you. You can then further embellish this arrangement with bright, colorful lollipops and ball ornaments (like in the example shown here). Complete the layout with two large, decorative bells.

2. Evergreen sprigs and signage

Do you have some evergreen sprigs left over from decorating indoors? Well, use them in your empty flower pots! Add some large, golden bows and seasonal berries to complete the arrangement. Finally, you can add a sign wishing everyone best wishes and season's greetings.

3. Christmas windowsills

Even if you only have a small windowsill free to decorate, you can set up a festive planter using evergreen sprigs and seasonal berries. Add some pine cones, a little artificial snow, some pieces of wood "stolen" from the fireplace and a few decorative, wicker balls to complete the arrangement.

4. A warm welcome

You probably already have flowerpots permanently placed at/near your entryway, right? If so, you can "dress them up" for Christmas too. In the example shown here, a decorative display has been set up using wooden stars, a string of fairy lights and Christmas-themed figurines (Santa, snowmen, angels) to welcome any guests.

5. Decorative fresh fruit

If you are looking for a truly original idea, try laying out fresh fruit amongst evergreen sprigs, pine cones and colorful bows (as shown here): your outdoor planters will not only be great-looking decorations, but will also provide food for the birds and other small creatures.

Another way to decorate the entryway of your home, is to use poinsettias and large, red balls together with small, decorated fir trees and a red sleigh. This arrangment will certainly give your guests a warm, festive welcoming!
