Cleaning the house is a challenging chore that we all have to do and it can be very time-consuming too.
But if you organize yourself properly, it is possible to save time cleaning your home: check out the great tips below which will help you speed up getting this tedious done!
1. Don't put it off "until later"
Postponing ("putting off") doing your cleaning chores means facing a larger "challenge" when you eventually have no choice but to get the job done. But by adopting a few simple strategies, you can avoid being faced by a mountain of things to do when you eventually have to clean your home:
- put things away immediately after using them;
- clean the stove immediately after cooking;
- wipe down the sanitaryware every morning after using the bathroom;
- put dishes in the dishwasher immediately after use and don't leave them in the sink;
- sweep the floor every day after meals;
- fold and put away laundry as soon you take it out of the dryer/off the washing line.
Whenever you are faced by a particular cleaning chore, ask yourself how long it will take you to do it: in reality, most chores will only take a few seconds or minutes and will leave you free once they're done.
2. Leave your shoes in the entryway

The best way to save time on cleaning is to minimize the amount of dirt that's tracked into your house. And getting residents to leave their "outdoors" shoes in the entryway, is one of the best ways to ensure this.
Place a shoe rack in the entryway, and get into the habit of taking off your shoes as soon as you (and your other family members/guests) enter the house.
Also, you can buy reusable shoe covers and/or slippers for your family and guests and encourage them to use them.
3. One thing at a time
When you plan to clean your home, break the job down into smaller tasks. For example, divide the house into "zones" and list what what needs to be done in each zone.
Having a schedule to follow will help you complete individual tasks more quickly and efficiently, and without having to do them repeatedly.
4. Proceed in an orderly manner

To thoroughly and quickly clean your home, always proceed in an orderly fashion.
Start from the top of an area and work your way downward: dirt will fall down from above and if you start with the floor, you'll be forced to clean it again after you've done with the shelves, furniture and lamps.
5. Do you know how to use your cleaning products?
The correct use of your cleaning products can also optimize your time and make the cleaning go faster:
- when purchasing cleaning products, choose a only a few that have multiple functions to avoid filling up your kitchen cabinets with a confusing clutter of cleaning items;
- detergents work better if left to act for a few minutes: dedicate yourself to doing something else for 10/15 minutes after spraying detergent on the surfaces you need to clean - when left for a while, these surfaces will be much easier and quicker to clean.
6. Use cleaning appliances

Using cleaning appliances is one of the best ways to save time cleaning the house: find out what these appliance are and use them to optimize your cleaning chores. For example, using a robot vacuum cleaner will help you keep your floors clean without your intervention; an air purifier will be very useful especially if you have pets at home, as it will pick up dust and pet hair; a dishwasher can save you from having to manually do the washing up (and can also be used to wash/clean other items, like the children's rubber toys, oven and stove grills, make-up accessories, sponges, and more).
