Wallpaper can be more than just a simple wall covering. In this article, we will show you some fantastic ideas to transform it into an unexpected and creative furnishing element. You can cover portions of walls to accentuate the shapes of the architecture and demarcate areas, but also to make bland furniture much more attractive. Check out these ideas that can help you give a unique touch of personality to your home for minimal expense.

1. Accent walls

Wallpaper is perfect to create a great-looking accent wall, ie. a section of a wall or a niche which is covered with patterned wallpaper to make it stand out.

There's a myriad of wallpaper types you can use: repeated motifs/patterns of all kinds - from geometric shapes, to flowers, to traditional patterns - but also "copies" of tapestries, murals, photos and other eye-catching works of art.

Wallpaper also comes in various application types: some are put up using a specific glues which is spread on the wall first; others are self-adhesive and it only takes a moment to cover a wall.

2. On the ceiling

The word "wallpaper" invokes images of this cladding covering the walls of a room - but have you ever thought of changing it up by decorating the ceiling of a room with patterned wallpaper? It's a perfect idea to liven up an otherwise neutral-colored room...

... but this choice also works to further emphasize the entire "mood" of a room, becoming a focal point that unites all the colors and shapes in the room.

3. Wallpaper on paneling

Do you have walls in your home decorated with framed panels (with wood panels being the most common)? Each of those panels can become a "picture frame" to be clad with wallpaper that matches the decor of the room, as shown in the example here.

4. On the doors

A boring door can become a focal point if you cover it with a bit of wallpaper - and for this, the adhesive type is the most convenient to use. You can wallpaper both sides of the door so that open or shut, the door will always draw admiration!

5. On the stairs

If your staircase is a little bland, you can liven it up by choosing to wallpaper the walls that frame it. Of course, you will need to chose a wallpaper that matches the colors on both floors that the staircase links. Alternatively, you could go for a wallpaper that completely contrasts with the surroundings to give the staircase some extra "pop"!

6. But also under the staircase!

Under the staircase, you may have set up a functional area: a reading refuge, a mini office, a laundry "room", a study area etc. To visually demarcate this area, you can clad it with attractive wallpaper.

7. To add character to a small bathroom

A small bathroom - perhaps a service bathroom - is often neglected when it comes to decor. But you can give a small bathroom a bit more character by wallpapering it.

8. Inside closets and wardrobes

The same principle applies to other small, neglected areas of your home: a built-in closet, a storage niche closed off with doors, a bland wardrobe: use a wallpaper that can bring color and style to these often overlooked areas and furnishings!
