DIY Halloween crafting projects

Halloween brings with it a unique atmosphere, where previously scary and sinister "ghoulies and ghosties and long-legged beasties" become source of fun and celebration. Those who want to recreate this fun atmosphere at home can do so with the many DIY crafting projects out there to make lanterns, garlands and other "spooky" decorative objects to scatter around the house. And the materials you need for these projects, you probably already have at home (or can find easily)! Below, we list some really fun DIY Halloween projects you and the kids can tackle this season:

1. Cut the pumpkin from the bottom, it's easier

In a video from IG account, @homewithchristina, we see how to cut the pumpkin from the bottom and then how to use an electric whisk to more easily make a haunted Halloween pumpkin!

2. Cheese cloth ghosts

Using cheese cloth, you can quickly make this fantastic little ghost; then, place it on top of a battery-powered fairy light and switch on. Now you have a very cute, fun Halloween lantern!

3. Bend candles in hot water

In IG user @ashleymariesavage's video, you are shown that by putting candles in hot water, you can soften them enough to bend them however you want. Add a couple of stick-on eyes (or a bunch!) and now these "unnatural" candles become the perfect decorations for a scary Halloween party.

4. Ghosts in the windows, made with leaves and glue

A little PVA/white glue on some leaves (maple leaves are ideal, but you can experiment with any that you want), and you're essentially done! As soon as the glue dries, use a black marker to draw on eyes and a mouth and and stick your ghosts in your windows! Click on the link under the photo to check out the video.

5. Bats made from pine cones and cardboard

Perched on or hanging from a branch, these cute bats are very easy to make: all you need are some pine cones, cardboard and a little paint

6. Ghost-shaped confetti poppers

Parties are definitely more fun when there's confetti involved (well, except for the cleanup crew, perhaps...), and you can make confetti poppers like the ones shown here easily with just a few balloons!

7. Colorful garlands for Halloween

Just learn how to cut out the shape you want, and in a flash, you'll have garlands with the silhouettes of ghosts, black cats, bats, spiders or pumpkins to decorate the house with. All you need is some colored paper and a pair of scissors!

8. Cute, cardboard tube bats

A toilet paper tube, some colored paper folded like an accordion, and you're basically done: just a few finishing touches are then needed to complete these cute, decorative bats!

9. A little science to make floating ghosts

Dried, white beans become ghosts that will "dance and bob" about in water if you just add some baking soda and vinegar: a fun way for children to learn a little science, even if it is Halloween!

10. An lighted garland of napkin ghosts

These fantastic little ghosts are made from starched napkins shaped over balls of aluminum foil. Once made, the ghosts are placed over the bulbs of a string of fairy lights (as shown here). This is also a simple and fun project to do with the kids!

Will you try out any of these projects this Halloween?
