DIY spice racks: some ideas on how to organize your spice collection in the kitchen
A kitchen cannot be considered as fully stocked if there aren't any spices around somewhere! That said, lots of packages of spices and other condiments can become a messy inconvenience and setting up a spice rack is a great way to "restore order".
Below, we bring you examples of some truly wonderful spice racks: vintage, minimal, retractable and more. The key feature of a spice rack - no matter what style you choose - is to have all the containers being identical. Read on to find out more:
1. Wood and rope
With a little woodworking skills, the spice rack shown here is quite easy to put together. Failing that, you buy ready-made shelves and just drill out the holes to add the rope!

If you have unused space between two kitchen cabinets, it's probably where dropped knives, ladles, food scraps and dirt in general accumulates. Fill this space with a pull-out spice rack on wheels.
3. Easy and stylish: the spice drawer

There are many ways to use a deep drawer as a spice rack. A lot depends on how you want the jars to be arranged: do you want to be able to read their labels on their lids or on their sides? Once you've decided on this, measure the drawer and select the most appropriately-sized jars.

5. An end cabinet

7. A vintage hanging or free-standing spice rack
A search of second-hand and antique shops, flea markets or online stores selling second-hand objects will certainly turn up vintage spice racks - wall-mounted or free-standing - that you can paint and decorate (if you want).

Using wood and brass, or copper or floating shelves, you can fill any niche in your furniture or even on a wall to accommodate your favorite spices.

Using very simple jars and mini shelves in plexiglass (or other similar transparent materials), you can install this bright, modern-looking spice rack.
