From Beetlejuice to Wicked: the top, movie-inspired, Halloween decoration trends in 2024
This year, some blockbuster movies of 2024 are driving Halloween costume and decoration trends more than ever before: the "evil", anti-hero/sprite Beetlejuice is back, as is the green-skinned witch from 'Wicked' and there's also the ubiquitous Marvel superheroes. Let's check out some great movie-based ideas you can consider when decorating your home for Halloween this year!
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!
One of the greatest cinematic cults has returned to the cinema after more than a 30-year absence: of course, we are talking about the movie 'Beetlejuice' which returned to theaters all over the world from September 2024. Beetlejuice is a mischievous sprite, originally played by Michael Keaton in 1988 and created by Tim Burton (who is also the director of the sequel).
With it's return, Beetlejuice movie-mania is stronger than ever, as is the drive to decorate homes for Halloween in this theme. There's many ways to do this, such as filling plant pots with iconic Beetlejuice sandworms with their black and white striped tentacles.
There are also video tutorials online that show you how to make these sandworms, using spray paint and polyurethane foam.
One of the most recognizable aethetics this film is the black and white striped patterning that decorates Beetlejuice's clothes - but there's more! He also has a crazy, acid-green hairdo! So, why not reflect these weird "eccentricities" in a stylized garland, like the one shown here?
More black and white stripes, acid green and purple, neon back-lighting is one way you can decorate any piece of furniture (like the desk shown here) for Halloween - or even for the rest of the year if you want!
If you don't want to decorate whole pieces of furniture, you can also just scatter Beetlejuice-inspired decorations around the house. In this example, the titles of the books invoke the mischievous sprite! Remember, his name must be uttered three times if he is to appear!
The Wizard of Oz
At Halloween, witches, scarecrows, crows and magic abound. All of these elements are present in one of the greatest classics of world literature, The Wizard of Oz (written by L. Frank Baum). In 2024, this classic returned to the cinema as the blockbuster movie, 'Wicked'.
Dorothy-inspired Halloween costumes are still extremely popular, despite not having a "reinvented" character in the modern depiction. Given this, why not use a grey, stuffed, toy dog in a woven basket to salute Dorothy's legendary pet, Toto!
Here's another iconic Halloween decoration: witch legs that can be placed almost anywhere in the home - or even in the garden. Of course, this decoration is inspired by Oz, marking the moment when the Wicked Witch of the East is crushed by Dorothy's house when she lands in the magical world.
These witch's legs can be placed wherever you want, including in flower pots (like in the example shown here). Usually, these legs are clad with black and white striped stockings, but you can also go with green and black stripes if you're a Wicked fan.
These legs are made with pool noodles, reinforced with iron rod supports and "dressed" in the iconic witch's striped socks and buckled shoes.
Wicked
'Wicked' is the name of the musical directed by Jon M. Chu, with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in the main roles of Elphaba and Glinda (the famous witches from The Wizard of Oz). 'Wicked' was written by Gregory Maguire in 1995 and revisits the magical world originally created by L. Frank Baum. It's is a story about Oz before Dorothy's arrival and has found its greatest success as a famous Broadway musical (which debuted in 2003 and with Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth in the leading roles).

The poster advertising the musical 'Wicked' is an unmistakable icon in modern times. Depicting a silhouette of Elphaba - the green-skinned witch - with her iconic witch's hat, this image makes for a great Halloween decoration. Using a styrofoam mannequin's head, a wig, green paint and some false eyelashes, you can recreate Elphaba in 3D as a stunning Halloween decoration!
Typically, the dominant color in decorations inspired by the musical Wicked is green (emerald green being the most popular choice). But how about combining this green with black and white stripes, as shown in this photo of a "decked out" Halloween dining table?
Deadpool & Wolverine

Despite Halloween now being celebrated around the world, the American influence remains strong. And this influence is clearly seen in the most popular Halloween costumes and home decorations. In 2024, the blockbuster movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, saw the reuniting of Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), delighting Marvel fans all around the world.
So, how about using this movie as inspiration for a Halloween decoration theme? Well, check out the example shown here which shows Wolverine's adamatium claws busting through a wall!
Halloween wouldn't be Halloween without pumpkins (be they real or artificial). And Deadpool's mask is a great way of decorating a pumpkin! And, of course, you could paint on the mask of any other superhero you're a fan of (like Spiderman or Ironman, for example).
Will these blockbuster films help inspire some of your 2024 Halloween decorations?
