Robust, cheap and versatile, pallets are used for many DIY projects aimed at furnishing homes and gardens. Pallets can be turned into almost anything you need: outdoor furniture, flooring, cabinets, worktops, seating and so much more. For some DIY inspiration, check out some of the proposals listed below:

1. A side table

When the weather is nice and you're spending time outside, a handy side table is a "must have". Using a pallet to make a side table is easy, cheap and can be painted/decorated to blend seamlessly into the surroundings.

2. Outdoor flooring

Wooden flooring is very handy for an outdoor dining area or to border a swimming pool (be it above-ground or not). Make this flooring yourself using pallets you've dismantled.

3. Order in the garden

Buckets, bags, basins, garden tools and more: there are many garden items you probably prefer to keep out of view and/or protected from inclement weather, no? Well, why not build a cabinet for these items using pallet wood?

4. Privacy walls

Do you want to partition one area from another, put up a fence or enhance your privacy? Wooden walls/fences made from pallets can help you do this. You will need pallets that are in good condition and then properly treated (ie. stained, oild and waterproofed). It's the perfect project for DIY lovers.

5. Hanging bed

More comfortable than a hammock and as beautiful as a sofa: a hanging bed made from pallets and rope trumps them both. Apart from these resources, all you need then is a sound hanging support to secure the bed to (like a venerable tree or solid piece of masonry).

If you have a very sunny garden, you certainly need some shade. Building a bungalow-type structure using pallets - like the one shown here - could be just what you are looking for!

7. Dream destinations

One of the cutest decorations for a garden are directional signs. You can put up proper, accurate signage, but even pointing the way to fictional locations (like Hogwarts!) can be a wonderful, amusing idea!!

There are slightly more complicated projects you can take on: here's an example of a pallet which has be transformed into a outdoor mini-bar (great for your garden parties!).

9. Gardening station

Here's a truly unique, fun idea: build a replica of a street vendor's cart to place in the garden using pallet wood. Now, your guests just need to help themselves to the tasty treats you're "hawking" in your garden!

11. Sheds and playhouses

Using pallets, you can easily build a functional shed for "grown ups" or a cute, fun playhouse for the kids.
