There are some who never forget to dust the screens of their TVs or computers; then, there are those who put off this chore indefinitely. Dust continually settles on these screens and is often "joined" by fingerprints and other pollutants. Additionally, incorrect cleaning methods and/or cleaning products can worsen this problem. So, let's see how to clean flat screens properly:

As mentioned above, both flat-screen TVs and computers get dirty easily and constantly. Obviously, cleaning these screens will increase your viewing pleasure. That said, there are some precautions to remember to take and some mistakes to avoid making:

  • Avoid the use of liquid products as much as possible: liquids can drip and end up inside screen frames, risking reaching the electrical components and shorting them out;
  • Even when you need to use a liquid product for cleaning, there are certain types to avoid. These include glass cleaning sprays and any product that contains solvents such as alcohol, benzene, ammonia or nitro-thinners. These products can ruin the surface of a flat screen by eroding the anti-reflection coating;
  • Never use powdered detergents;
  • Never use absorbent paper towels or newspaper for wiping down TV/computer screens;
  • Do not use cloths that leave/track lint;
  • Always turn off and unplug the appliance before cleaning it.

Now you know what not to do, here's how to proceed:

  • Unplug the appliance from the power supply;
  • Use a duster to wipe down the screen and the frame;
  • Use a microfiber cloth on the screen: if you see fingerprints or specks of dirt, try to remove them delicately by rubbing the surface with the microfiber cloth, but without applying pressure. These screens are very delicate, and applying pressure could damage them;
  • If you need to use a liquid to soften dirt deposits, use water. Dampen the corner of the cloth, wringing it out thoroughly. Wipe the damp cloth where its needed, and be ready immediately to dry up any moisture with another dry cloth;
  • Complete the job by wiping off everything with another clean, dry microfibre cloth to ensure no moisture is left behind.

As you can see, it's easy to clean TV and computer screens without taking any risks!
