A bar at home: a finishing touch your home might be missing
There's a lot of pleasure to be had by having a glass of wine, a cocktail or your favorite liqueur at home: it's particularly enjoyable when we entertain guests too. So, why not set up a tailor-made bar area in your home? There are a myriad of great DIY projects you can get inspiration from to do exactly this. Check out some of the ideas listed below:
1. A perfect, private bar
If you have enough space in an area in your house, it would be very nice to set up a lounge-bar, as shown here. A small marble wall acts as the counter, a shelved niche stores all the bottles and a sofa with accompanying lamps provide the seating. Who could want more?
2. A dark charm
This corner bar is full of character, reflected in the brilliant gleaming surfaces: the shiny black of the thin, vertical tile cladding, and the burnished, golden shelves, handles and taps. A masculine and classy look.
3. Compact, yet spacious
The optimal way to set up a bar at home is to set one up inside a niche in the wall (or in a gap between two pieces of furniture). You can decorate the "background" a bit like you would with the kitchen backsplash - but perhaps with something a little more "glamorous".
4. Custom-made wine cellar
Home bars almost always have furniture that acts as a modern wine cellar. This is usually a type of refrigerator that keeps the wine bottles at the right temperature, just like they would be if stored in a traditional cellar. From true connoisseurs, of course.
5. A splash of color
And when it comes to niche bars, you can bold with colors: be it the furniture, the paint on the wall or even the wallpaper you use, be daring!
The above examples are what are know as "wet bars", ie. miniature bars where drinks are prepared, and also come equipped with a small sink.
6. Small, charming DIY solutions
However, where there is no sink with running water, this is called a "dry bar" and this type of bar is much easier to set up.
7. Convert an open-faced cabinet
A popular idea is to equip a trolley with multiple shelves (IKEA's famous RASKOG model is widely used for this), but open-faced cabinets also work very well (like the four-slot bookcase pictured here).
8. Transform an vintage armoire into a bar
If, however, you have a vintage piece of furniture that you don't know what to do with - such as a wardrobe, an old chest of drawers or a sideboard - transforming it into a mini bar (with or without a sink), is something to consider doing.
9. You can also find space in a corner of the living room
Don't have a lot of space and/or a piece of furniture you can convert? Don't worry - even a little free space on a wall may be enough. Put up a shelf for the glasses and have a slimline table nearby with a couple of armchairs. Perfect for improving a neglected corner of the living room, for example!
10. A bar under the stairs

Another often forgotten area that could become an excellent home bar: the space under the stairs.
11. A surprise bar in the library
Do you like surprising your guests? How about "hiding" the entire bar behind the panels of a bookcase? Equipping it with lights will be the finishing touch!
