Having a fully-equipped gazebo (aka a pavilion) in the garden will be a truly eye-catching, almost magical, addition. And there are many models you can chose from: open ones for when the weather permits outdoor activities; covered ones if you want to enjoy using them all year round. Let's take a look at some gazebo types below:

The ideal gazebo for many is the classic one: a structure covered with a roof and which is placed in middle of a garden and surrounded - almost hidden - by vegetation. Many older homes have gazebos like this, gracing their grounds.

It's difficult to recreate this classic look in modern homes - unless you have a large property, of course. But, that said, a classical "Victorian" gazebo could be just what you are looking for to enhance your garden.

These gazebos are particular attractive when erected on slightly raised areas of the garden. Then, they just need to be surrounded by plants, shrubs and even trees (if you have space) to create a "secret garden" effect.

One of the most popular types of gazebo - and very affordable - are those made from wrought iron. These models follow the classic look with a pagoda or domed roof. And the ironwork can be as elaborate and detailed as you wish (or can afford).

For shade, you can always add a curtain to the centre of the dome, draped inside the structure to avoid hiding the gazebo's beauty.

And if you want, you can go further by adding curtains to the lower frames to give you even more shade or privacy when you need it.

Of course, climbing plants/creepers can be used as natural coverings for gazebos. And these plants have the advantage of providing a pleasant scent from their flowers, along with shade and privacy.

Another type of structure to consider erecting if you want a gazebo at home, is a model made from metal and glass and that looks like a classic greenhouse (but in miniature). Whether you want to grow exotic plants inside it or set up a living room to enjoy even when it's raining, the choice is yours!

Stone gazebos

A structure that will last for centuries! Many love the look of a gazebo with columns that can be found in some noble, English homes. Reminiscent of ancient temples, adding creepers can also give these types of gazebos a gothic look.

Modern stone gazebos are, in fact, almost cottages attached to the main house - as shown here. Set up with all your "creature comforts", you can spend all your time out here!

Staying on the topic of modern structures, these days wooden gazebos are increasing popular and are often modelled on a simplified version of Far Eastern architecture. The screens are perforated panels (using a sort of mosquito net) or can even be done in glass.

And for those who admire the modern industrial look, there is plenty of choice for selecting metal and glass models which are the contemporary version of the greenhouse gazebos, mentioned above.

Where the roof is made of glass, you will probably need a curtain to provide shade during the day. But, by night, these types of gazebos are truly magical!

A raised platform - almost as if the entire structure is on stilts - surrounded by vegetation: this is a Bali-esque look that everyone will admire!

Would you like to have a gazebo like one of these in your garden?
