Niches in the shower: a minimalist, elegant solution to keep everything organized
A niche in the shower cubicle solves a lot of potential problems in terms of finding space for storing all your "vital" bathing products: with a niche, there will be no need for plastic or metal furniture or shelving which can get ruined by humidity, for example. So, let's check out a few shower layout solutions that incorporate a handy, elegant niches.
Niches: find space for everything you need, without creating clutter
None of us want clutter in the bathroom or the shower: your goal should be to try to maximize the amount of free space available for comfort and functionality purposes. To this end, then, appraise your bathroom and think about installing a walk-in shower.
Putting in a walk-in shower involves closing off a square/rectangular area (usually a corner) of the bathroom with glass walls/doors: this configuration effectively isolates the shower and the cubicle can be accessed without having to step over any raised steps/retainers.
In most cases, the shower cubicle will have two solid wall and two glass walls (one of which, doubles as a shower door). Sometimes, a solid wall is used as a divider, with or without glass features.

Once installed, what's the best way to equip a shower to hold all your bathing products? Well, you can add (waterproofed) items like cabinets, but a using a niche in one (or more) of the walls is a much less "cluttering" solution.
Niches of every kind and which blend into the surroundings
Niches are not much more than just recesses in the wall, large enough to securely hold all one's bathing products.
Stored in a shower niche, it is normal to find gels, shampoos, conditioners, sponges and other implements (hanging from modified hooks, for example), all readily to hand when one steps into the cubicle.
If the niche is spacious, you may want to add decorative elements - like plants - that suit the bathroom and can tolerate the high humidity levels. Ferns and orchids are an idea here, but you can also use cut flowers (which obviously will need to be changed often).
The advantages of having a niche in the bathroom
In addition to reducing clutter at ground level, perhaps the most convenient thing about having a niche in the shower is that it is easy to wash and clean.
Made of the same material as the rest of the shower, these niches blend into the surroundings very well and can be cleaned easily when you wash and clean the rest of the shower cubicle.
Certainly, having a niche for all your bathing products is much less annoying than checking for rust or soap build-up on multiple pieces of metal or plastic fixtures and furnishings.

And, of course, the size, shape and design of bathroom niches can be cutomized to suit your tastes and needs. Niche designs range from the luxurious (perhaps with specially treated wood as a backing material) to a simple "hole-in-the-wall" for those with minimalist leanings.
The choice is yours
Given the ability to customize your niche, you can decide how much space to allocate to it and how to decorate it. In this example, a mosaic theme has been followed.

Determine how much space you need to comfortably hold all your shower bathing products, and this will determine how big your niche should be.
Given the above examples, we're sure you'd agree that having a niche in the shower cubicle is a much more elegant alternative to just throwing up some shelves!
