Create a special feeding area for your dog in the kitchen with these simple DIY projects
Our loyal and loving pet dogs are usually treated as fully-fledged members of our family. However, That said, most home owners don't pay a lot of attention to how and where their four-legged friends eat and drink. In most cases, food and drink for the dog is "plopped" down on the floor in a couple of very basic tin/plastic bowls.
So, how about doing something special for your dog in the kitchen? And a dog-friendly kitchen will also improve the look of the area when the food bowls are taken off from just laying around haphazardly on the kitchen floor.
Below, we suggest some interesting DIY projects for creating a kitchen feeding corner/niche specially for your beloved dog:
1. Bowl cabinet
Clear some space in your kitchen for a small bowl cabinet (like the one shown here): you can place all the food supplies in the lower compartments, and the bowls fit into the top. This will make the bowls less visible and reduce the risk of the bowls spilling.
This DIY project is simplicity itself: all you need is to get an old cabinet, cut out two bowl-shaped holes in the top, and you're done.
2. Integrated into the wall
If your kitchen is small, why not integrate the bowls into the wall? Not only will they be kept out of sight, but you can close them when your dog doesn't need them.
3. Integrated into a piece of furniture
In the kitchen (but also in a corridor or at the entryway), you can easily integrate your dog's bowls inside a piece of furniture, as shown here. If possible, also add a faucet so that you have fresh water handily availabe at all times.
4. Feeding station
And what if you created a feeding station under your coffee cabinet or under your kitchen island? Remove the doors from the lower part and equip the cabinet by situating your dog's bowls on the lower shelf; if you have enough space, you can also create a relaxation area with a comfortable cushion for the dog. Comfortable, discreet and clean.
5. Drawers under the kitchen units
A small kitchen can be a challenge when finding room for putting out dogs' bowls. The solution to this problem is to create a "doggy drawer" under your kitchen cabinets which can be pulled out when needed. The bowls will be spill-proof and the drawer can be pushed back in when not in use.
6. Chest of drawers
Do you have an old chest of drawers laying around? A simple DIY project can transform this furniture into the perfect station for your dog's bowls: the lower drawers will hold the bowls, while in the upper draws can store all the food and other accessories.
Where do you usually put your dog's bowls?
