Spiders are unpleasant "guests" in our homes and, although they may not scare us, we may prefer to avoid bumping into them in the home. We usually think that arachnids hide in dusty, dark places (such as attics, pantries and basements). But sometimes, spiders can be found even in the bedrooms.

Unfortunately, there are many elements in our bedrooms that can attract spiders, and especially long, heavy blankets that, touch the floor and that spiders can use as "ladders" to establish themselves in the room.

So, what can we do to deter spiders from entering our bedrooms? Let's find out together:

The frequency with which you change your bedding can be a determining factor for the presence or absence of spiders in your bedrooms. In fact, sheets very quickly accumulate dead cells that we lose during the night and food crumbs from bedtime snacking attracting numerous insects - including bed bugs - which spiders prey on. Sheets also accumulate body oils and sweat, creating a warm, humid environment that various parasites thrive in.

To prevent this happening, it is best to change the sheets at least once every 2 weeks (and once a week if you live in a warm, humid location and/or if you sleep with your pets).

Also, make sure you always keep your bedroom tidy: boxes laying around and piles of linen and clothing on the floor provides spiders with the perfect spots to hide in.

Another determining factor for the presence or absence of spiders in your rooms is the ambient temperature. Spiders are unable to regulate their body temperatures, preferring warmer environments. For this reason, sleeping in a cooler room could help to deter spiders from nesting in or around your bed.

This measure is certainly not foolproof, but it can help to keep spiders away from your home. You can also make access to your home more difficult for spiders: sealing all cracks and crevices and ensure doors and windows are properly screened; keep the house clean and remove trash promptly.
