A classic look but presented in innovative way; a return to the past but with an eye to the future: these are among the trends identified by design experts regarding the types of floors that will be the most popular in 2024.

The appearance must be natural, and also feel warm and welcoming, facilitating our R&R. This goal can be achieved without costing a fortune or requiring/using high-maintenance materials. Check out the 4 examples/trends detailed below:

Love it or hate it, carpeting is coming back into fashion, and cannot be ignored. Carpets introduce color and help maintain the ambient temperature. Given the trend, many people are now laying carpets with retro prints in their homes - carpets with highly decorative motifs, geometric patterning and bold colors.

Modern household appliances (vacuum cleaners, steam cleaners, etc) can easily keep a carpet in top condition these days. That said, carpeting in areas with a lot of foot traffic or homes with kids and pets, is probably not a good idea.

Wood or wood-effect floors in "cold" tones has been consistently popular over time: grey tones tended to dominate. But in recent times, dark wooden floors (or other materials that replicate wood) are coming back into vogue.

Wood flooring is the go-to choice for a rustic, farmhouse style interior design - and is a decor which is enjoying a boom in popularity. In this example, the flooring is made up of long, wood boards placed side by side. But, instead of the "real thing", you can use cheaper laminates, porcelain stoneware or even vinyl.

It's comforting to know that there is an ever-increasing market for eco-sustainable floors, ie. those made of natural and/or recycled materials and with low-waste installation procedures.

One example of this is cork flooring. Cork flooring, mixed with a substrate of recycled materials, produces excellent results: beautiful to look at, thermally insulating, sound-proofing and pliant (so, very comfortable for walking or standing upon).

Another option is bamboo flooring: growing bamboo much more eco-sustainable than using the wood of "regular" flooring trees. And, with bamboo you still have a natural material, and not a synthetic copy.

Would you like to renovate a room in your home with one of these types of flooring?
