Look up: 13 ideas to make the ceiling the focal point of any room
Looking up to admire a fabulously decorated ceiling or ceiling vault: one might think this is something one only does when visiting churches, museums or historic homes. But you can have something "look up-worthy" in your home too!
All you need to do is find the right material and decor style, and then you can say goodbye boring neutrals for your ceilings!
A wooden ceiling
Wooden ceiling panels with prominent beams that support them: this is a decor that is not just for rustic environments, but one of the furnishing choices of modern homes (especially those in the Scandinavian style).
And nothing stops you from painting wooden ceilings of this type. Check out this kid's room, with its furniture in soft tones and the boldy-painted ceiling.
Contrasting beams

Draw attention to your ceiling by highlighting the load-bearing beams against the rest of the ceiling. The photo shows what you can get by painting the ceiling elements in different colors...
... or just decorate the beams themselves. Not with colors that are difficult to manage and match, but just an extra touch that makes the architecture of the house feel special....
Fake beams

Nowadays, and especially in apartments, it is rare to find ceilings made of wood, so what can be done? Well, there are now many who have added fake beams to the ceiling - as shown here.
Double function: a ceiling that decorates and is sound-proof
Let's consider using other materials, such as excelsior (wood wool) or cork. Less commonly used, these materials are highly functional: in fact, both these materials are excellent for sound-proofing a room.
Wallpaper on the ceiling
In bygone eras, historic homes often had their ceilings painted by some famous artist. Obviously, you could do this too - with a big enough budget... But you can get similar results by using a decorative wallpaper on the ceiling!
Using wallpaper is a low-cost way to give character even to the areas of the house that are often ignored, such as the entryway, corridors, the service bathroom and so on.
Lacquered ceilings
A lacquered ceiling is one that has been painted with ultra-glossy finish paints, such as those with a vitrifying (glass-like) coating. This create a reflective surface, amplifying the brightness of a room. Not for everyone, but a decor that has its advantages!
A wall that turns into a ceiling
You could decide to extend the decoration of an accent wall onto the ceiling (or a part of it) - as shown in the example here. And you can do the same using wallpaper or even wood panelling!
... and a ceiling that extends down the walls
Altenatively, you can also paint the top of the walls in the same color as the ceiling, creating a "flowing" effect. As a visual "trick", it's a way to make very high ceilings appear a little lower!
Metal tiles on the ceiling
How about tiling the ceiling? It can be done! But rather than with majolica which is typically used for floor tiles, we refer to wooden or metal tiles. Metal tiles, in particular, usually have relief (raised) decorations, just like those found in historically important houses!
Ceiling lighting
Lookig for diffused, soft lighting? Well, you could install a false ceiling for spotlights or something similar. But you could also use a false ceiling to create a modern, eye-catching lighting effect, like the one shown here!
