A TV above an electric fireplace: check out these wonderful examples

If once the heart of a family's living room was the fireplace, now it's the TV (or the "entertainment center").

These days, TVs are very thin, and with large screens. And the fireplace? Well, these have not disappeared: modern heating systems, in fact, have retained the fireplace - albeit powered by electricity rather than wood..

The result is that, in many homes, we can find a TV mounted directly above a fireplace!

Aesthetically, combining a modern fireplace with a modern TV, makes for a stunning look in the living room.

But is it safe to place a TV so close to a heat source such as that produced by an electric fireplace? All the manufacturers of this type of heating system agree that this can be done safely. In fact, when you install an electric fireplace, the heat produced does not actually stay in and around the fireplace itself. And any heat that does come off the front of the fireplace will not damage the TV.

In any event, it is still advisable (and more aethestically pleasing) to mount the TV at a bit of distance from the fireplace.

Wooden strip cladding for walls is all the rage these days. This cladding has an insulated base (for noise and temperature), with these slats placed on top. As you can see here, this cladding works very well for a TV-fireplace combo wall.

And check out how beautiful a slatted wall is adjacent to a smooth-finished wall. And the two walls are joined by a gorgeous wooden shelf that runs transversely across the bottom.

You may have noticed that in almost all of the above arrangements, there is a shelf/mantlepiece above the fireplace. This is handy for ornaments and decorations and it also helps to shield the TV from any heat coming off the fireplace.

Modern fireplaces obviously do not need a flue (chimney), but the design shown in this photo replicates an old-fashioned fireplace look and feel.

We're sure you'd have to agree that this old-meets-new look is very elegant.

Online, there are many examples of people who have constructed walls themselves, thereafter installing the fireplace and mounting the TV (or putting up pictures, or TVs that look like pictures!).  One of the favorite wall claddings used is the so-called "shiplap" - wide wooden planks that resemble those that are used for boat bulkheads.

We said before that black is excellent color for these walls, but that doesn't mean that other solutions are any less so. However, always seeing the big shiny black TV and the dark glass of the fireplace standing out against a light background, can get boring over time. Against a black background, the TV and fireplace are much less noticeable.

This automatically creates an accent wall that draws attention to itself, but without any distracting shapes and contrasting colors.

Would you like to enjoy the warmth of a fireplace-TV combo like this in your living room?
