How to organize the kitchen whilst maintaining style and elegance: here are 13 useful tips
Maintaining order in the kitchen does not only mean storing "things" correctly, but also organizing them so that the place does not look messy and chaotic. Design techniques can, then, also be used productively in the kitchen. However, how do you do this so that it turns out aesthetically beautiful and functional?
Let's take a look at some ideas to get inspiration for sorting out our kitchens:
1. Magnetic organizers
Want to get rid of the shelves on the walls? But how can this be done? The magnetic containers shown here could be the solution. Practical, minimalist, elegant and functional, they will not only allow you to "clear" the wall, but also provide a touch of modernity.
2. Hanging pots and pans
Storing pots and pans is always frustrating - there never seems to be enough space. And how annoying is the noise you make when you dig one out from the back of a cabinet? Well, how about decorating with them? You just need a curtain rod to attach hooks to and you're done! Check out the photo to see how effective and decorative this can be.

Who said that bookcases (and similar) are just for the living room? These can also be used in the kitchen to organize your pantry items. As can be seen here, everything you need will be readily to hand and its aethetically pleasing too.
4. Knife holder strip
Knives are indespensible in the kitchen - but what's the best way to store them effectively and safely? Well, many use classic knife blocks. However, there are other solutions and using a magnetic strip is one of them. Beautiful, elegant and functional, you can choose one that matches the rest of the kitchen and then attach all your knives to it. What do you think?
5. Carry-all island
Are you a skilled DIYer that loves to repurpose things? Well, you could build your own island unit to place in the center of the kitchen to serve as an extra worktop and storage space. You can build the island to have drawers, shelves and even small cupboards. Then, you can leave these areas exposed or mount doors to keep the storage areas "hidden" - the choice is yours. The important thing is that the top/lid is strong enough to work on.
6. Open-faced shelves
Shelves can be beautiful and are very useful. Exposed/open-faced shelves are the most practical and elegant addition for a kitchen. You can use them to display ornaments, but storing your jars, can and other containers on them is their primary function. Putting up wall-mounted, open-face shelves is one of the best ways to sort out a messy kitchen.
7. Hanging bags
Is you kitchen small and you don't know where to start? Well, you could try using hanging bags as containers. There are different types of bags available, and the jute/burlap bags in this photo are very cute and practical. And being moveable, these bags can create a sort of "dynamic" furnishing effect in the kitchen.
8. Retractable drawers
Where can you "hide" the smallest kitchen items so they don't lay around on the kitchen counter? A narrow, deep, retractable drawer could be the solution: check out the example in the photo. These drawers can be bought in shops or you can try DIYing them yourself.
9. On show
How about putting up some shelves that contrast in color with the surface to which they are mounted? This contrast willl create a sophisticated, elegant look in your kitchen - and is functional at the same time!
10. Baskets and containers
We all know how useful baskets (and similar containers) are for organizing our wares. But to look elegant, you need choose "upmarket" products - perhaps baskets made from wicker or cordage, for example. These types of containers look attractive in the kitchen and will prove very useful too.
11. Where to put pots with their lids?
Pots and lids, as we mentioned above, are difficult to store neatly. Most of us shove them out of sight in a cabinet - which rapidly turns into an unholy mess. To solve this problem, pull-out, compartmentalized drawers might be ideal solution (as shown here). Why not give it a try?
12. Elegant display cabinets!
Many think of display cabinets as being unfashionable, but this is not the case at all. The framed glass doors of a display cabinet can look very elegant in a kitchen. And you can go further by adding hidden LED lighting to the inside of the cabinet to show off your best kitchenware. What do you think of the example shown here?
13. Where to hide the trash can?
Trash cans are handy, but very ugly to look at. Here, a bracket on the inside of a cabinet door can keep the can hidden from view.
