Do you need to put your washer and dryer in the kitchen? Hide them using these simple tips
Having a separate laundry room is always the best solution for a home, but in today's smaller dwellings, this is not always possible.
Given this, the perfect place to place a washing machine and a dryer is the kitchen - even if this might seem counter-intuitive. With the hectic pace of modern life, optimal organization of space and time is paramount for a "smoother" life.
Creating a laundry area in your kitchen will be a practical choice, allowing you to do the laundry while simultaneously preparing your meals.
So how does one go about creating a laundry niche in the kitchen? There are several tips that you can follow to achieve this goal: keep reading for some guidance.
1. Use a column cabinet

Create your laundry area inside a column cabinet (like the one on the far left of this photo): you will have enough space to house both the washing machine and the dryer. And with one or two extra shelves, you can store all the laundry accessories and detergents. At the same time, the cabinet's door will make your laundry area look like a normal pantry (when closed).
2. An extension of the kitchen
If you don't care about hiding away the laundry area in the kitchen, you can simply add an extension, like the one shown here: not only will you the washing machine and dryer be close, but you gain a new countertop.
3. Laundry niche
Create a niche in free wall recess in your kitchen to use as a laundry area. This will be the perfect way to exploit an otherwise unused area in the kitchen.
4. Under the island
If you have a kitchen with an island, this can be a great place to create a laundry area. You can place the washing machine and dryer under island's countertop, safely out of sight.
5. Lower doors
Inside a floor kitchen cabinet - perhaps right next to the oven or dishwasher - is the perfect "hidey-hole" for your laundry appliances.
6. An old-fashioned solution
If you love the vintage style, hide your laundry area in the kitchen behind a curtain or under a worktop; tt will add a retro charm to your kitchen.
7. Accent elements
Finally, how about turning your laundry appliances into accent pieces for your kitchen? Not hidden, but actually highlighted, modern appliances with clean lines will become a new focal point in your kitchen.
