Don't know how to organize your food containers? Here are some solutions that will restore order
All of us use food containers a lot. They help us keep the refrigerator in good order, preserve opened foods, are used for packed lunches, and much more. But we also know that these containers (and their lids) can become a chaotic jumble in our kitchen cabinets.
There are some ways, however, to avoid this mess developing. Let's check out some methods to achieve this:
Container chaos?
Creativo
When you have a lot of food containers you use frequently, the kitchen cabinets can quickly become a chaotic mess of container lids and bottoms shrewn all over the place and near-impossible to match up again. So, what can be done?
Well, the first thing we recommend doing is to completely empty out the container cupboard (or the area where they are stored). Clean out the cupboard and then make a selection of those that should be kept and those that should be thrown away. Once this is done, you can proceed.
Furniture compartments
The main secret to creating order with containers, is division. Separate the bottoms from their lids and place these two different items into two different areas. To do this, extra shelving will come in handy. To this end, you can purchase a divider (like the one shown here) that has two compartments/racks: one for the container bottoms and one for the matching lids.
Sort the bottoms out by size and put smaller ones into bigger ones, incremently. The lids can be positioned vertically and also sorted from smallest to largest. If the shelves can slide in and out, so much the better.
Classic document holder
If you don't want to buy a shelving accessory (see above), you could repurpose a classic document holder for this function. With three or more compartments, you can use the holder for storing lids conveniently.
For even quicker identification, you could label the document holder slots.
Document holder with compartments and shelves
There are many document holder models available and many ways to adapt them to your needs. If you want to keep everything together (lids and bottoms) in the same holder, then the ideal is a solution is the model shown in the photo: top for the lids, lower shelves for the bottoms. Not only will things be neater, but this holder takes up very little space.
But what if document holders aren't for you? No problem, there are other solutions:
More methods for storing containers neatly
Another way to store containers neatly could be to put interlocking baskets in a drawer, where you can store and divide them. Alternatively, you can use holders attached to the inside of the kitchen unit doors. This way, you can make the most of all of the available space in your kitchen.
