During winter, we tend to spend a lot more time indoors - and especially in the living room. For this reason, it is always good to have a warm blanket or soft throw on or near sofa for when we need it.

However, blankets and throws laying around can make the living room look messy, ruining the relaxing vibe. And perhaps, due to the layout of the living room, it can be challenging to tidy up properly.

If arranged properly, however, blankets on the sofa can add color, personality, depth and life to our living room.

So, let's learn what mistakes to avoid and how to correctly arrange the blankets on the sofa to keep your living room looking neat and tidy.

There are some common mistakes many make when arranging blankets in the living room and these mistakes are not limited to simply leaving them haphazardly draped over the sofa, the coffee table or even dropped on the floor. And you may think that putting a blanket over the back of the sofa is good idea - but think again...

By placing your blanket on the back of your sofa - whether spread out or folded - you "put it on display", which could make the living room look even more chaotic and messy.

So how should we deal with our blankets and throws in the living room? Let's find out below:

Thin or small blankets can be artfully draped over the sofa in a sort of "casual deliberation". This "organized disorder", however, requires a bit of finesse: make sure that part of the blanket drapes from the seat or arm of your sofa, perhaps allowing one corner to touch the floor.

If you really don't like the idea of having your blankets "on show", you can choose to put them in a storage container placed next to your sofa. How about, for example, a designer wicker basket, like the one shown here?

3. Hanging up

Hang up your thin blankets on the wall using hooks, coat hangers or even draped on a decorative ladder: not only will the blankets look decorative, they will also be readily to hand when needed.

4. Folded up

Of course, you can simply fold your blankets and lay them over the back, on the armrests or placing them under the cushions.

If you have a sofa in the chaise longue style, you can drape your blanket over this, arranging/folding it in a "casual" manner. This will add color and life to your sofa.
