What are people looking for when they go to Pinterest for advice on how to furnish their home, how to dress, how to put on makeup and a host of other needs? Well, recently, this social media platform has shown a peak in searches related to the world of interior design.
Of course, everyone's tastes differ and click-analyses show that users are looking to the past and do not necessarily follow the guidance of interior design experts! So, let's see what people are clicking on when doing their interior design "research":

When cooking becomes kitsch: "Kitschens" are trending

A play on the words "kitchen" and "kitsch", the trend called "Kitschens" has been born. "Kitschens" are kitchens that have a distinctly kitsch features: decked out in colors and patterns that, at one time, would have been considered "in poor taste". In fact, this eye-catching decor is achieved by using vintage items and design features that hark back to the past.

Speaking of kitchens (or even bathrooms!), vintage and brightly colored tiles seem to be ever more popular, especially for the splashbacks in kitchens. And when looking through the Pinterest analyses, this vintage aesthetic can be seen extending to crockery and other household accessories!
Western Gothic: what if the Addams family lived in the Wild West?
At one point, there was a buzz about "vintage Americana", as well as the aesthetic called "boho western". Now, both of these styles have merged, and with a gothic touch. What does this mean? Basically, it's an eclectic mix of the Wild West, with dark shades and gothic style elements thrown in.
In the photo providing an example of this blended aesthetic, we see wood, black and white photos, skulls and other dark-colored objects that are reminscent of the Wild West.
This style also leaves room for using antiques for decorating the living space. That said, more modern items are available which also fit in well with this decor.
Cafecore: a coffee break is a ritual that deserves its own corner
Add the word "core" as a suffix to another word and you raise its prominance: in this case, the word "coffeecore" highlights the importance some assign to enjoying this popular beverage.

Shiny metallics are also shown to be a "hot" trend. Pinterest proves that metallic details are increasingly popular in all areas: from clothing, to makeup, to the choice of materials and finishes for home decor.
In the kitchen, this means using stainless steel wherever this is possible (and includes the appliances too). And the preference is for "cold" silver and not gold.
Who loves this style? Well, it seems to have wide appeal - from Generation Z (who drive most of these trends) to Boomers.
Sometimes it's has an industrial look, which can reflect both efficiency and functionality, as well as pleasant design.
Aquatecture: living in harmony with nature alongside aquariums and water gardens
Aquariums, water features, and similar: ideas for bringing the acquatic world into homes abound and range from expensive commericial objects to low-cost DIY solutions. As a result, there are a thousand variations of water features based on classic fish bowls available. That said, there is also a trend towards plants-only aquariums (or those that can accomodate more "exotic" aquatic life, like turtles, for example). The important thing is to ensure we can cater to any animal or plant species we bring into the home.
