Don't know what to do with all the rubber bands you have at home? Well, check out these tips!
Often, we open a drawer and find old unused items that we haven't used for months or even years. These are those little things stashed away, set aside, and kept as they "might come in useful" at some point. In reality, we end up forgetting about these things - and this includes elastic bands too!
In this regard, we want to suggest some truly ingenious uses for rubber bands around the home: let's check these out.
How to reuse rubber bands in the kitchen
So, you've found a little bag containing a myriad of colorful rubber bands of all sizes that you have "stashed" over the years. What can you do with them? Well, take a few and head into the kitchen - you'll be amazed!
- To prevent the cutting board from sliding around: wrap a couple of decently-sized rubber bands on the sides of the board... and that's it. By doing this, you can stop the board from slipping! The rubber will create friction on the surface of the countertop, making the cutting board stable and secure.
- To open jars: open a stubbon jar using an elastic band. Just put a band on the lid and now it should be much easier to open - and without you hands slipping!
Now let's move on to the closet: are you ready for some more incredible tips?!
How to reuse elastic bands for your clothes
With a couple of rubber bands, you can easily solve the problems described below:
- Prevent clothes from slipping off hangers: It often happens that clothes slip off their hangers and end up on the floor - not ideal when you want to wear an outfit that is wrinkle-free. To prevent this, wrap rubber bands around a hanger at its ends: this way, the clothes won't slide off thanks to the resistance provided by the rubber bands!
- Wearing loose-fitting jeans: Another use we can assign to a rubber band is being able to wear a pair of jeans that are too loose. Simply wrap a rubber band around the button located above the zipper and pass it through the buttonhole where the button would normally go. By doing this, the two edges of the pants will now be pulled together, and you now just have to button up the jeans to hide the rubber band.
Now let's move on to another much-loved "activity area": DIYing
How to reuse rubber bands for DIY tasks
Doing small jobs around the house are part of everyday life, so the following tips will be very useful:
- To remove excess paint: by wrapping a rubber band of the right size around the middle of a paint can, you can use it to remove excess paint. Once you dip the brush into the paint, all you have to do is scrape it against the rubber band to remove excess paint!
- To remove a stripped screw: it may happen that we have to deal with a damaged screw that we can't get a grip on with the screwdrive. So, what can we do? Simple, just use a rubber band: put the elastic band between the screw and the screwdriver, making sure to align with the screw head. This way, you'll provide the extra grip space to allow the screwdriver to do its job!
In short, rubber bands can be very useful and well worth holding onto!
