Just being distracted for a moment is enough to cause an accident: a slight bump could easily knock over a glass of red wine, spilling the liquid everywhere - even on a valuable and light-colored carpet. In these cases, you need to stay calm and remember how to use one of the following ingredients to deal with the mishap:

  • Vinegar. Once you've removed most of the wine with paper towels, take some vinegar to prepare the following mixture: dilute two teaspoons of vinegar in a basin with about half a liter of water - which should preferably be lukewarm. Now, soak a sponge in the solution and gently blot the stained area until it disappears.
  • Hydrogen peroxide and dish soap. Another very effective remedy is to make the following cleaning solution: pour 3/4 of a cup of hydrogen peroxide and 1/4 cup of dish soap into a spray bottle, shake to mix, then spray this mixture on the stain and let it sit for 10 to 25 minutes. Monitor the stain, and once you see it starting to lift off, dry the stained/wet area by blotting with a soft cloth.

But that's not all; there are a couple more tips that can do a great stain-removing job - keep reading:

If you don't have the above-mentioned ingredients, don't despair: there is certainly one of the following in your pantry:

  • Salt: It's unlikely that you won't have salt at home, given its widespread use in the kitchen. In this emergency, salt could prove to be very useful. Pour salt onto your carpet to completely cover the stained area, then patiently wait for the grains to absorb the wine!
  • Club soda: This highly effervescent carbonated water can work wonders on stains. Many swear by it's ability to remove wine stains!

In conclusion, remember never to rub a wine stain but only blot it. Which method do you think is the most effective for removing a wine stain?
