Permanently free your shower cubicle from limescale with this truly ecological product
When it comes to naturalistic cleaning, vinegar is undoubtedly one of the best choices, especially if you need to remove limescale. For this reason, vinegar is often used as the product of choice when cleaning the bathroom and in particular the shower cubicle, where limescale accumulates.
However, not everyone perhaps knows that vinegar is not always the most suitable remedy for cleaning when it comes to acting on metal surfaces. Vinegar contains acetic acid, a substance unsuitable for use on metal surfaces as it corrodes them, releasing nickel which is harmful to the marine ecosystem.
The good news is that among the many remedies available is one equally effective in removing limescale, but decidedly less harmful: let's find out together what it is and how to use it to clean our shower cubicle.
Citric acid: what it is and what it is used for when cleaning
Citric acid is a mild acid naturally contained in all citrus fruits, as well as being an additive widely used in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries (know as E330). This product is an odorless powder soluble in water and you can find it in organic shops, but also in wine shops, agricultural shops and online. Its acidity makes it suitable for replacing products that have a rinse aid or anti-limescale/softener function and is therefore suitable for the laundry, dishwashers, or for cleaning any surface that requires anti-limescale treatment.
Citric acid is a highly effective descaler, is environmentally friendly and can be used safely on all surfaces in the home - includingmetal surfaces and all objects and utensils that come into contact with foodstuffs. So how can we use citric acid to eliminate limescale from our shower cubicle? Keep reading:
An effective and ecological descaler for the shower cubicle
Creativo
To obtain a truly effective and ecological descaler for your shower cubicle you simply have to dissolve citric acid in demineralised water. 150 grams (in soft water) or 200 grams in the case of harder water in 1 liter of demineralized water. We recommend the use of demineralised water so that the citric acid has greater effectiveness (since normal tap water typically contains calcium).
This mixture can be used for various purposes, but to effectively eliminate limescale from the shower cubicle, we recommend adding 10 grams of ecological dish detergent (which thanks to the surfactants, will improve its cleaning effectiveness). Spray the mixture over the entire cubicle surface and leave it to act for a few minutes before rinsing off with a damp sponge.
What about removing limescale from the shower head? Simply put the mixture of water and citric acid into a plastic bag and insert the shower head, leaving it overnight.
Remember never to use citric acid on marble and other natural stones as it will damage them!
Your shower enclosure will shine like never before and without damage to the ecosystem!
