Is keeping a child's room clean and tidy impossible? Not if you follow these 8 great tips!
Keeping your home clean and tidy can be a real challenge, especially if you have kids. Toys, books, stationery and school things can quickly clutter up your children's room. But it is important to ensure that these items are always within easy reach (of you and the kids).
Whether you have a separate games room or not, keeping the home tidy is important for both body and mind (and your sanity!). But, as mentioned, achieving this goal can be a struggle. So what can we do? Well, keep reading...
Below, we suggest 8 great strategies that you can adopt to keep your children's bedroom tidy at all times:
1. Involve your children
The first thing to do - even before starting to tidy up the bedroom - is to involve your children. Although it may seem unconventional, it is essential to do this so that your children learn about responsibility. And this practice can help in developing other socially valuable skills to your children. As you tidy up, explain why it is good to share and donate old toys and clothes to other children.
2. Start with the obvious
If the tidying up chore seems overwhelming at first, start small. The first thing to do is identify the messiest areas and clear those first. Whether it's a desk, a bedside table or a play mat, immediately remove all the clutter and put it in its proper place.
3. Divide the room into zones
Arrange all your children's things according to the way they use the space. This will also make it much easier for the kids to keep the room tidy and find what they need when they need to.
4. Less is more!
Contrary to what one might think, the more streamlined and tidy a child's room is, the better for their rest and creativity. Don't go overboard with soft toys, toys and other accessories: your children may feel overwhelmed.
5. Divide objects into categories
Grouping children's things and dividing them into categories will help you organize their bedroom better. This way, not only will it be easier to keep these things in order, but you will also be able to see which toys your children play with the most (and which ones you can get rid of). To store them more easily, get some boxes or containers which you can label for easy identification.
6. Find alternative solutions
Especially if the bedroom is very small, it will be difficult to find solutions for storing all the kids' toys. So look for alternative solutions, such as organizers to hang on wardrobe doors, storage beds or shelving for unused corners. Using these solutions, you'll be surprized how much space you can find in a small bedroom.
7. Space for collections
Kids love collecting things (like farm animals, for example) and it is important to respect this habit by allowing them to keep these objects (even if they may seem useless to us). However, it is equally important to store these collections separately from the other toys (to prevent future tantrums about a missing dinosaur, for example).
8. Teach keeping order
While tidying a child's room can be a relatively simple task, maintaining order in the long term is not. Given this, we return to our first point - teaching our kids the importance of tidying up after play and where this responsibility lies (or, at least, that it is a shared duty).
Following these guidelines, you should see a marked improvement in the state of your childrens' play areas/bedrooms.
