Home office: 9 proposals to create a space to work in comfortably
Some call it a study, some an office: it is a space - or an entire room - dedicated to working or studying. It could also be a workstation from which to manage all the housekeeping matters of the family. And, of course, we can customize this work area however we want to.
But to be a truly productive working area, you need to find the right balance between design, efficiency, comfort and personal taste.
Home office: a tailor-made space
Some may have an entire room available to turn into a office; others may only have a free wall or a small corner. Irrespective, a solution can be found for all needs.
Starting with paint, you can chose shades that are relaxing (blues and greens), or those that reflect "order" (shades of grey, in particular)...
Alternatively, you can go for warmer or brighter shades (ochre, yellow, orange and similar - warm and cozy and not overwhelming or "shocking").
Adding plants
Plants help to create a healthy living space – and this is backed up scientifically. Having plants around is therapeutic and they also help to clean the air we breathe.
Personalize your office
At home, we can surround ourselves with everything we want in our office area. Decorations/pictures/painting hanging on the walls, ornaments, plants cute gadgets and more - all of these items can make our home office more welcoming. But, of course, the space (and especially the work surfaces, like desktops) should not become too cluttered or crowded.
On the walls, however, you can do more with hanging objects and paint colors.
Furthermore, the home office could also set up in the room/s where we spend our free time. Here, a space can be reserved for the desk and other items needed (computers, printers, drawers, organizers).
Organizing the office
If space is lacking, you can also use the walls to hang up things and keep everything in its place and to hand. Here's an example of a wall-mounted, grid-patterened organizer you could consider using.
Light
It's difficult to imagine setting up an ideal office if the space available is dark and gloomy. So, if you can, position the office in a bright area and with your seating facing the windows (but with PC screens, for example, being shielded from glare).
Where natural light is lacking or inadequate, you will need to install a decent lighting system. You will need have both diffused light and spotlights for your work areas. Typically, "cold" lighting is used in the work area, but "warmer" lighting can be used elsewhere in the office.
