Olive green interiors: design ideas to exploit this warm and relaxing color
There are colors that never go out of fashion in interior furnishings, and others that struggle to remain popular over the years: perhaps halfway between these two categories is the color olive green. This is a shade that tends to be dark and imposing, but which can be toned down so it's not oppressive or boring. In fact, this color encourages relaxation.
Even when it comes to combinations, olive green goes well with natural tones inspired by the earth and vegetation, but can also be found in more unexpected combinations. It's worth considering this color for decorating your home.
Olive green on the walls
It may seem a bit risky, but then when you see so many successful examples of olive green for interior furnishings, you will immediately change your mind. Intense and enveloping, it makes you think of the softness of velvet, and is the backdrop to many other colours, especially those inspired by the tones of nature.
On an impact wall (aka accent wal), or on multiple sides of a room, it can contrast well with skirting boards, radiators, windows. And if the room seems gloomy, the floor can be made light: wood, gray tiles, even finished concrete.
Olive green really works well in every room: relaxing for the bedroom, the same for the living room, warm and cosy for the kitchen. And even when olive green is the shade of the tiles in the bathroom, it looks amazing.
It also goes well with antique pink, burgundy; with golden brass taps; with copper utensils or stainless steel appliances. In short, depending on the shade chosen, it is truly capable of meeting every need.
Olive green, therefore, creates a starting point inspired by nature, relaxing us as if we had a panorama of treetops in front of us. And this color can be complimented by unexpected accents: purple armchairs, orange or red accessories, perhaps even electric blue.
Olive green for the furnishings
If the idea of painting the walls olive green is intimidating, or if it is not possible, the fact that it can fit into many different palettes allows us to consider it as the shade of the furnishings.
It could, for example, be the color of the household linen, especially in the bedroom. Cool for summer, with warmer undertones for autumn for example!
The less saturated versions will be able to combine with whites, greys, sand and similar: this could then be the shade of cushions and blankets on a sofa, or perhaps of tablecloths in the dining room.
If the house is full of plants, using olive green vases, armchairs, picture frames, lamps or similar will create a common thread in the decor that brings cohesion and harmony.
A versatile color with classic elegance
Not infrequently, furniture whose upholstery is olive green is velvety: it is perfect for embodying the iridescent shades of this type of fabric, and will find a perfect companion even in the intense browns of wood or other pieces of furniture.
Even in very light and bright environments, a touch of olive green could make the difference, and perhaps become the favorite shade for curtains!
