Sounds like a good idea, but you don't know where to start? Well, keeping reading...
Below, we show you a recipe for producing long-lasting candles at home.
The very simple recipe for DIY "eternal" candles
For this simple recipe to make "eternal" candles you will need a few readily-available ingredients:
- soy wax;
- candle wicks;
- essential oil;
- glass jars.
You can reuse old glass jars or old drinking glasses for this purpose and you can obtain wicks from old or broken candles - or you could make wicks yourself: in fact, for this you need is some cotton thread or twine which you can dip in soy wax and allow to dry. To fix a wick to the base of the candle holder, you can use plasticine or a drop of PVA glue.
When your wicks are ready, proceed to making the candles: melt the wax in a bain-marie, taking care that you do not get water in the wax. When it is melted, transfer it to a glass container and add a few drops of the essential oil, then pour the wax into your glass candle holder.
Don't fill the container completely as you need to leave some of the wick exposed. Leave to cool and your candles will be ready to use.
Why use soy wax for these candles?
Why use soy wax to make long-lasting candles? There are many benefits to this:
- soy wax burns more slowly than paraffin and beeswax, which is why your candles will last longer; this wax also burns more evenly and will not leave residue on the container;
- being a vegetable, soy and soy wax will not increase the levels of CO2 in the air and will burn cleaner and without any soot residue;
- because it is a natural ingredient, soy wax candles are not toxic, unlike paraffin ones;
- finally, if you choose to personalize your candle with essential oils, soy wax candles will have a stronger and more longer-lasting scent than other candles.
