There is a particular type of fly, the Psychodinae, which usually lays its eggs in very humid places. Given this, this fly tends to "hang around" drains. So, when you see flies buzzing around your drains, it is not a good sign. But how can we identify that the drain pest is the Psychodinae fly?

It's very simple: they are very small and dark and they have prominent veins on their wings and thick hair all over their bodies. You need to act quickly to prevent a Psychodinae infestation.

There are some precautions to follow to prevent these pests from being attracted to your drains. And there is an ingredient capable of eradicating them if they are already present: sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). Read on to find out more:

Flies can carry and transmit bateria and germs and this is why it is important to eliminate them.

But how can we get rid of Psychodinae from our drains? First of all, if you are not certain they are present, you could stick some adhesive tape over and around the drain hole(s) before going to bed and check to see if any flies have been trapped in the morning.

Once you are sure the flies are present, proceed as follows: get some baking soda, white vinegar and boiling water, and pour these natural ingredients down the drain. The "toxicity" of this mixture will eliminate all the flies for good.

We recommend that you repeat this operation a few times a day, for a day or two, to ensure that the flies are all killed off for good. But obviously, in the event of a serious infestation, do not hesitate to contact the professionals.
