Sunscreen stains on your swimsuit: wash them away using the right methods
A swimsuit is an essential companion on holidays, but what can we do when it gets sunscreen stains? There's no need to despair, just wash it the proper way.
Using sunscreen creams is vitally important. But these creams also stain our clothing - especially our swimwear. Read on to find out how to deal with this problem:
Stains on swimsuits
Removing sunscreen stains from swimsuits is a bit more challenging than it is for other clothing because swimsuits are usually made of synthetic materials which absorb liquids and creams readily. We must always first check the labels on our costumes, to find out what they are made of and what the washing instructions are.
Furthermore, it is very important to act quickly: the longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to remove the stain.
The best method to remove stains from swimsuits
Creativo
The best practice to follow is to rinse out the costume as soon as possible, using plain water and when the cream has not yet had much time to be fully absorbed. However, if the stain has already formed, you should avoid scrubbing it (which will only work the cream deeper into the fabric).
In the case of synthetics, one must proceed with caution, and always after checking the washing instructions. The first step is usually to moisten the stained are, without scrubbing: this is done when the swimsuit is dry in order to "soften" the fabric a little. Otherwise, if the costume and the stain is not already dry, take some sodium bicarbonate, or corn starch or even talcum powder, and sprinkle it on the stain. Wait about ten minutes and then remove the excess delicately, using a toothbrush or your fingers.
Then, sprinkle more baking soda on the stain, mixed with a drop of mild laundry detergent. Leave for half an hour and then do a regular wash at low temperature (or with cold water).
Although vinegar may also remove stains, it is best to avoid this as it can damage synthetic fabrics. If you want to use vinegar on cotton, it must still be diluted in equal parts with water.
With a little care, you can keep your costumes in pristine condition for a long time!
