Don't throw them away; your old or laddered tights can be recycled

DIY projects and recycling allow us to give a new life to old items destined for the garbage - thereby saving us money and helping the planet.

Among the many objects that we can recycle every day - transforming them into decorations or interesting furnishing accessories - there are also old clothes; how many times have you thrown away or donated bags of old clothes? But at least some of these garments could be recycled.

Your old socks or nylon stockings (aka tights), for example, can be recycled in interesting and creative ways.

This is how you can reuse your old laddered tights

Comfortable to wear under skirts, dresses and trousers, nylon tights are a much-loved accessory for most women.

As beautiful as they are delicate, these tights get damaged easily, which is why we often find ourselves having to throw them away after only a few uses. But did you know that you can make wonderful creations using your old tights? We suggest this interesting project to make a small carpet/mat:

• take your old stockings and cut off the legs, setting aside the crotch. Pin the legs of your stockings at one end and braid them together, adding more legs as you get to the ends.
• When you have obtained braids of the desired length, all you have to do is join them together - in the shape you want - with machine or hand stitches.
• You can also make decorative balls for the mat/carpet using the discarded crotch pieces, stuffed with cotton wool.

Another creative nylon tights project

There are many other ways to use your old nylon tights:

• Cut off the legs of your old tights and cuts along the entire lengths (but not all the way); then create a single, long piece that you can use to form balls of "nylon yarn". This will be the perfect raw material for knitting or crochet projects.
• The balls of yarn obtained as indicated above can also become the material for making necklaces, belts, headbands and other DIY accessories: in fact, you just need to weave them together to obtain these wonderful accessories.
• The waistband/crotch of the pantyhose can be cut out and used to create interesting decorations; in addition to the balls described above, you can also make original nylon flowers, embellishing them with beads and buttons.
