Lemon juice can be very useful when you want to keep mosquitoes and other insects from entering your home. Its strong smell will repell most insects and other pests. To do this, just squeeze a lemon along the bottoms of doors and windowsills.

And that's not all: keep the squeezed-out lemons and stick cloves in them. The combined scent of these two ingredients will also repell insects.

However, lemon is not the only cooking ingredient that can be useful in this sense; all products that have a strong smell are excellent insect repellents, such as the following:

  • vinegar: all types of vinegar are useful for driving away mosquitoes and other annoying insects, you just need to distribute the vinegar in strategic places to keep insects at bay;
  • coffee grounds: you can put grounds where mosquitoes usually deposit their larvae, but this will not repell adults; alternatively, you can burn the grounds like incense inside a tin container.
  • aromatic plants: there are many aromatic plants that can help us keep insects. Mint, lemon balm, sage, lavender and of course citronella, are all effective insect repellents.
