Unpleasant smells often permeate our homes: cooked food, rubbish left in the house for too long, decomposing food, limescale build-up, mold and smelly pipes and drains are amongst the main causes of this problem and can seem impossible to solve.

A product we all have in our homes is salt. But perhaps not everyone knows that salt also comes in handy for household cleaning chores. In particular, salt has a strong deodorizing power and can help us eliminate unpleasant smells from our homes quickly and effortlessly.

All you need to do is put 150 grams of coarse/rock salt and 20 drops of your favorite essential oil (or blend) into a small bowl. Place the bowl in a corner of the room to be deodorized and you will soon see that the unpleasant odors will be replaced with a pleasant perfume. Alternatively, you can put this mixture into multiple small bags and place them all around the house. In addition to deodorizing your home perfectly, this method will also allow you to remove any excess humidity (which will be absorbed by the salt).

Salt is also an excellent way to remove foul smells from the washing machine: put 1 kg of coarse salt directly into the drum and do an empty wash 60+ degrees C.
