Clean your stained plastic containers using these easy methods
Plastic containers are very convenient for storing our food or transporting it around when we are away from home. Often, however, continuous contact with food can make these containers dirty, leaving large yellow stains on their inner surfaces. Despite regular cleaning, these stains often remain (especially if we store tomato-based sauces or very greasy and fatty foods inside these containers).
Before throwing away still perfectly functional and usable containers, you can try different remedies to remove these yellow stains - and without resorting to expensive and aggressive tools or chemicals. In fact, you can use natural products you probably already have in your pantry.
Below, we show you how to get your plastic containers perfectly clean and stain-free again.

To remove the greasy film that tends to get deposited in and on our plastic containers, washing with soap and water is often not enough. In fact, to remove staining, it is necessary to use a degreaser and there are many natural remedies that can help us in this task:
- vinegar: vinegar is ideal as it does not leave potentially harmful chemical residue which the plastic could easily absorb and later release into our food. Mix water and vinegar in equal parts in a basin and immerse the containers to be cleaned overnight. The next day, you can proceed with the regular washing and you will see that your containers will be stain-free;
- sodium bicarbonate (baking soda): also an ideal, non-toxic product, baking soda is known for its whitening and slightly abrasive action. Dilute two tablespoons of baking soda in half a glass of water, stirring to form a homogeneous mixture, then distribute this on the internal surfaces of your containers and scrub with a soft sponge. Rinse off with warm water and you will be pleased with the results;
- lemon juice: lemon juice will not only to clean your containers but will also eliminate bad smells. Use it just like the vinegar method above, mixing it in equal parts with water and leaving the containers immersed in the mixture overnight, before proceeding with normal wash.
- finally, you can mix water and bicarbonate paste with either vinegar or lemon juice to enhance the cleansing power.
