A peg to keep your toothbrush clean? We explain how this is done
Brushing your teeth is very important for your personal hygiene: 3 times a day after meals is the recommended frequency. And, of course, the condition of our toothbrushes is important here too.
We all know that toothbrushes need to be replaced regularly - every 4 months or when we see that it is worn out. We also know that we need to take care of cleaning the toothbrush holder weekly. Further, if we share the bathroom with others, toothbrushes should be stored apart and/or with protective caps.
Despite taking these steps, toothbrushes are very vulnerable to germs and bacteria settling on them. So, how can we always guarantee maximum toothbrush hygiene? A peg can help us in this task - let's find out how:

It is important not to let toothbrushes be placed directly onto surfaces where they can pick up dirt and germs. It is therefore necessary to let them air dry in the vertical position so that the oxygen will eliminates most of the bacteria present. But when we are travelling, however, this can be a challenge since not all bathrooms are equipped with toothbrush holders.
A useful method to solve this problem is by using a simple peg. Put the peg on the toothbrush before placing it down on some nearby surface: the head will now be raised and can air dry without the risk of contamination.
Let's also remember to sanitize our toothbrush on a weekly basis. To do this we can use an alcohol-based mouthwash or one of the following methods:
- a glass of hot water with 2 tablespoons of baking soda for about 2 hours;
- a solution of vinegar and water in equal parts for 1-2 hours;
- neat hydrogen peroxide or diluted with mouthwash, left overnight;
- ultraviolet light sources;
- a glass of water with a spoonful of baking soda and a teaspoon of lemon juice for about 2 hours.
