This cleaning method originated in Japan and thanks to its efficacy, it quickly spread all over the world; to be truly effective in the long term, it must be done several times a month (ie. at least once a week), and uses only one essential ingredient used in many other cleaning chores: citric acid. Citric acid has a very strong degreasing, descaling and sanitizing action, making it very useful for cleaning the whole house.

To clean the toilet brush, pour a generous amount of citric acid on the toilet brush and leave it to soak in the toilet for at least an hour, rotating it from time to time to facilitate the removal of dirt. In this way, the toilet bowl will also be cleaned. If you want to obtain an even more power effect, you can add bicarbonate to the citric acid, which will increase its degreasing and cleaning power, as well as having a deodorizing effect. Remember to always wear gloves when carrying out these cleaning chores and to also clean out the toilet brush holder, to avoid immediate re-contamination.

You will see that in no time your toilet brush will be like new again. If you don't have citric acid at home, you can use white vinegar and baking soda instead - they have the same degreasing and sanitizing effect.
