The toilet tends to get dirty quite quickly and for this reason, it is very important that cleaning and sanitizing it is carried out daily.

But despite regular cleaning, the toilet can become encrusted with limescale due to the continuous running of water and unsightly yellow spots can form - especially on the bowl's waterline. Not to mention that unpleasant smells can emanate from a toilet too.

There are many tips we can use to help us to avoid this problem. Obviously the first is frequent and rigorous cleaning. Using the right products for the job is also key. But there is no need to resort to buying expensive chemical cleaners - there are DIY solutions. Read on to find out more:

To perfectly clean and perfume your toilet, you can prepare a very effective DIY cleaning mixture at home using just a few readily-found ingredients. To prepare this mixture you will need the following:

  • 100 grams of bicarbonate (baking soda);
  • 100 ml of dishwashing liquid;
  • 200 ml of floor cleaning detergent;
  • 1 spoonful of toothpaste.

To the floor cleaning detergent, add the baking soda, then the dishwashing liquid and finally the toothpaste. Dilute with a little water and mix well. Pour this mixture a little at a time into the toilet and scrub the surfaces with a brush, concentrating on the limescale-encrusted areas in particular. Soon, the porcelain will be perfectly white and fragrant again.

This mixture can also be used to wash all other fittings and fixtures, so that your entire bathroom will be clean, shiny and smelling good. Just use a sponge to rub the mixture over all the sanitary ware and rinse off with plenty of water.

Give it a try - you won't regret it!
