Limescale developing on bathroom and kitchen faucets is a problem we've all had to deal with; sooner or later, in fact, the continuous deposit and evaporation of water on the surfaces of our taps leaves us with unsightly white or yellowish spots of limescale, which not only look ugly, but can also compromise the functionality of the faucets.

Limescale deposits are caused by the presence of calcium and magnesium salts in the water, which will cause the faucets to malfunction sooner or later. Soap residue and cleaning products also contribute to these deposits, which mix with these salts, rapidly increasing the build-up. This process is all the more rapid the greater the hardness of the water we have locally.

There are numerous products on the market to remove limescale, as well as numerous natural remedies that can allow us to solve this problem in an economic, rapid and ecologically-friendly way. However, there is an old-fashioned method that you may not yet know about and is very effective. Read on to find out more:

There are many solutions that you can adopt to prevent limescale stains developing on taps, and the first is to take a preventive action: the use of filters and water softeners will reduce the amount of salts present in the water, while also minimizing limescale deposits. When cleaning, you can also resort to using the descaling powers of vinegar and lemon. In the case of large limescale build-ups, you can prepare a mixture of vinegar and bicarbonate which, when left to act on the faucets for a few hours, will make them as good as new. There is also another age-old method you can use which is extremely effective in eliminating limestone.

But what exactly is this method?

To do this, all you need to do is get a white, unscented candle. Light the candle and let it burn for a few minutes, until some of the wax has melted. At this point, blow out the flame and let the wax cool (but not until it solidifies). Rub the wax over the entire surface of the tap to create a protective layer, which will become a transparent film when it dries. This candle wax protection method will not only prevent limescale from depositing on the faucets, but will also make it easier for you to clean them, accelerating and facilitating the removal of other dirt and residue.
