One of the household chores that is part of our routine is washing the floors. In fact, we have to do this chore quite frequently to ensure good home hygiene. And all of us have our preferred methods and products to use - which also depends on the material from which our floors are made (and how dirty they are).

Of course, everyone wants the best cleaning results: not just  a clean floor, but a pleasantly scented one is the ideal goal. And to achieve this, we can even use natural ingredient: laurel (Laurus nobilis).

Since ancient times, both in the West and in the East, the laurel plant has been exploited for its numerous health benefits. It is rich in antioxidants, helps the immune and digestive systems, and there are even studies analyzing its benefits in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is also an ingredient that adds a unique taste and aroma to many dishes.

Laurel is usually used when dried, when it has a higher concentration of essential oils and the smell and taste is more intense. Laurel is also used extensively in aromatherapy treatments.

Laurel incense and oils are frequently used to perfume home environment, encouraging relaxation. However, there is also another method that will allow you to spread the delicate aroma of laurel in your house: by using it to wash the floors.

In order for it to release the perfume, laurel must be exposed to heat: take some laurel leaves (a small handful is enough), grind them up and then put them to simmer in a saucepan of water (about 750 ml) for about ten minutes. You will already smell the aroma being released from the saucepan.

Fill a bucket with hot water, add hte laurel infusion (after having filtered out the leaves), and then add a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid that is not strongly scented. Now, you will have a floor-washing detergent that has a very pleasant scent that will linger. In the case of parquet, do not use too much of the infusion as it could damage the wood.

Have you ever tried this method?
