When thinking about cleaning stubborn dirt, many will turn to using baking soda. But sometimes, baking soda by itself is not enough. But adding an abrasive sponge to the mix could cause damage to the surface of the object/s to be cleaned. The middle ground, then, could be to use a baking soda-based product along with dishwashing liquid and egg shells.

Dishwashing liquid (which perhaps could be replaced with Marseille soap) can dissolves dir and degreases. And the egg shells? Well, egg shells are actually much harder than you may think, and are also insoluble (unlike baking soda). The shells have the abrasive capacity necessary to scrape away dirt and will not damage hard surfaces.

Finely chop up the shells of 3 or 4 eggs. In a large cup or small bowl, mix 200 ml of dishwashing liquid with 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Add the chopped shells and mix well. Dilute the mixture with 200 ml of water, pour into a jar and close the lid. Your homemade scrubbing soap is now ready to use for your various cleaning chores.

When you also want to use this mix to remove limescale, however, dilute it with a little vinegar, and always let it act for a while before scrubbing and rinsing off.

So, why not give this low-cost remedy a go?
