Since we cannot avoid cleaning the house, it is essential that the cleaning products and techniques we use give us the desired results. And, of course, some cleaning chores are tougher to do than others.

However, there are some home tips that can come in handy here: if, for example, we want to rid a toilet of limescale, we can use a combination of two ingredients that we usually don't associate with household cleaning chores.

The two ingredients/products in question are Coca Cola and baking soda. The former is great in removing rust, limescale and even stubborn, greasy dirt stains; the latter, is a delicately abrasive powder perfect for manually getting the dirt off many surfaces and is often used as an additive in the laundry washing. Together, then, these products can really help us out.

Be careful, however, never to mix them together in a bottle (or other confining container): when they come into contact with each other, they trigger an effervescent reaction, which produces a dense foam that spreads out quickly. But it's this reaction, however, that does the cleaning.

So if you have a toilet marred by stains that are difficult to remove, put these two ingredients to work. Pour the cola into the toilet bowl first, then add a glass of baking soda. Once the bubbling stops, slowly add a little more cola and leave it overnight. The next day you will notice that, with minimal effort (and a little bicarbonate on a sponge), the dirt will come off easily.

Another lesser-known method to try is on stubborn stains on fabrics. Coca Cola, thanks to its phosphoric acid, can be an effective degreaser. Pour the coca cola directly onto the stain and leave it to act for half an hour before doing a normal wash (and adding a little baking soda to the soap dispenser tray). Alternatively, you can pour a generous amount of cola directly into the drum before starting a regular wash cycle!

Have you ever done any cleaning using these two products?
