Stains on your sandals: there are 3 simple DIY methods to make them disappear permanently
Temperatures rise, footwear changes.. For many of us, the arrival of summer means digging out our sandals. But inevitably, wearing sandals means exposing one's feet to more dirt - and the sandals themselves too. Sweat, dust and dirt all accumulates on sandals and settles on the insole, up leaving stains and, very often, causing unpleasant smells.
So, how can we clean our sandals properly? There are a number of methods you can try, such as the ones described below:

Sandals usually can't be washed in the washing machine like many other shoes, but you still need to wet them a little to be able to effectively use the various remedies described below. So equip yourself with a soft cloth and moisten it, then dab the sole with it. In this way, you will be able to remove the bulk of the dirt in order to be able to act on the stains directly.
At this point, you can use several methods to make the stains disappear:
- Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda): in a small bowl or glass mix bicarbonate and a splash of water until you obtain a a moist paste. With an old toothbrush, scrub the paste on the stains and the rest of the sole. Wait a few minutes and then rub again with a soft, slightly damp cloth to remove the paste. Let it air dry, but not in direct sunlight. You can also deodorize your shoes if you add 3 drops of an essential oil of your choice to the baking soda.
- Marseille soap: dilute a teaspoon in a glass of warm water and then pass the mixture over the sole with the help of a cloth or an old toothbrush. Then use another moist cloth to rinse off, and a third - dry cloth - to remove the bulk of the moisture, before air drying.
However, if you are afraid of ruining your sandals with these DIY methods, do the following:
Purchase a dry stain remover: these do not require rinsing so they are good for sandals. Just spray it on the sole, let it dry for a few minutes and then brush it all off with a stiff bristled brush (like a laundry brush). Beat the sandals well against each other to get rid of any excess spray residue (powder). At this point, all that remains is to moisten a cloth and wipe the soles, then let the sandals air dry.
You will now have pristine sandals that smell like new!
