Sweaty clothes: 6 ways to remove unpleasant odors from workout outfits

Few things are as annoying as spending hours doing the laundry and discovering - once it's time to fold the clothes to put them away in the closet - that the bad smells haven't been eliminated by the washing. When it's very hot or when you do a lot of physical activity and sweat a lot, bad smells and sweat stains often remain on our clothes, even after washing.
Regardless of the material your clothes are made of, sometimes the smells and stains can be really persistent and for this, it is necessary to do something more.
We suggest below 6 useful remedies for this purpose:
- First of all, we suggest that you let your clothes dry out as soon as you get home. Humid environments encourage the proliferation of bad-smelling bacteria; if you don't have time to wash your clothes immediately, then let them dry out completely.
- Before proceeding with the regular washing, immerse your clothes in a mixture of 250 ml of vinegar and 100 ml of bicarbonate in 4 liters of water and leave them to soak for at least 30 minutes.
- For the wash, do not use too much detergent; detergent residue can become a sour, smell-producing source itself
- Use natural detergents, preferably rich in enzymes, which will more easily dissolve the dirt accumulated in/on your clothes.
- Fabric softeners, like detergent, can also create a barrier that prevents dirt from being removed properly. It's best not to overdo the dosage or replace the softener with citric acid (dilute 150 g in 1 liter of water and use 100 ml of the mixture) or white vinegar (same dosage as the fabric softener).
- To make better use of the cleaning power of your washing machine, wash your clothes inside out, so that the water and detergent can come into contact more directly with the dirt.
