Washing machine dancing across the floor on every spin cycle? Fix the problem with these easy tips

The washing machine is on, the spin cycle starts and a roar starts that reverberates throughout the house like a wildebeest stampede. This din is sometimes due to using an old piece of equipment. And in this case, there's little you can do until you get a new appliance. Very often, however, it's not the machine's age and the solution for stopping the noise is much simpler.

There are various methods that can help reduce vibrations, based on stabilizing the washing machine. Read on to find out more:

The main reason for the noise and vibrations is the position of the washing machine, or rather, its balance. In fact, it is necessary to check that it is positioned perfectly level, without leaning to one side or the other.

So, how to do this? The simplest method is to get a spirit level like the one used in masonry or DIY work. The air bubble will tell you whether the appliance is standing level or not. And at this point, you can adjust the shims (feet) as necessary.

It is also useful to know that there are special feet you can buy which are adjustable (where the originals are lacking, broken or non-functional). When the washing machine is level, it will tend to vibrate much less during the intense washing and spinning phases.

Another purchase that could prove useful is a special non-slip mat, thick enough to cushion the vibrations. It's an extra gadget won't produce miracles, but it will certainly help.

However, if the problem persists, it will be necessary to investigate the condition of the machine's shock absorbers, which function to reduce the vibrations of the washing machine. These are usually found at the base of the appliance. You can remove them yourself to clean, lubricate them, and then put them back (there are many helpful online tutorials for doing this yourself). However, since you will have to turn the washing machine upside down, it is best to get help from someone or, if you are not familiar with repairs like this, contact the experts.
