Charm bracelets: make them shine again by following these simple steps
Charm bracelets are back in fashion and can now be found everywhere. These bracelets are usually almost always made of silver (Sterling 925), and are very eye-catching: depending on the number and style of the charms used, a charm bracelet can be worn for almost any occasion. Cheaper forms of these bracelets are made of steel.
Over time wearing them, charm bracelets (like all silver) can get dull and tarnished. However, there is a very simple way to restore their original look, and make them shine again like when they were new.

What you will need:
- A bowl (preferably a glass on)
- Tinfoil
- Water
- Fine cooking salt
- Also have a soft cloth ready, like those used to polish silver
The procedure is really simple, and aims to dissolve the deposits on the surface of the metal, so as to make it shine again. Here are the steps to follow:
- Take the tinfoil and line the bottom and sides of the bowl. The shiny, reflective side should be face up;
- Place the charm bracelet/s into the bowl, on top of the tinfoil;
- Sprinkle the bracelets generously with fine salt;
- Now add some hot water (you can boil it with a kettle and pour it on after it has stopped boiling);
- Leave to soak for 3 hours;
- Rinse off well;
- Dry using a soft polishing cloth.
You will see a marked difference! Be careful not to use this method with jewelry that is not real silver or stainless steel, as it could prove damaging.
There are also those who add vinegar or two tablespoons of citric acid instead of salt.
If, on the other hand, the bracelets have small streaks on them, you can also try polishing them with a soft cloth and a mixture of water and isopropyl alcohol, with a ratio of 1:4 (for example, a tablespoon of alcohol and 4 tablespoons of water).
