Less effort and more free time: 8 cleaning tips to try out
There are tons of cleaning tips and advice online that are, supposedly, all useful in everyday life.
Some of these are, however, more effective than others. Some tips are just "urban legends" and can actually do more harm than good. But most tips - at least the popular ones - are worth giving a try.
To this end, we have collected a series of tips and good cleaning advice for you. Read on to find out more:
In the case of stains on leather or faux-leather shoes, you can use nail polish remover. Use the remover with a cotton bud which you should rub on the stain to be removed. Use the remover neat (or, if you have to treat a particularly delicate shoe, diluted with a bit of water). Then rinse off the cleaned area with water to remove the solvent.
To remove limescale from the shower head, try immersing it in a plastic bag full of vinegar (tied to the head's support). Leave on overnight and then wash normally.
Did you know that instead of using disposable dust-catching cloths, you can use recycled materials such as wool or microfibre socks, old sweaters and other woolen clothing?
It seems that spreading baking soda on carpets and rugs - before vacuuming - helps to clean them better and neutralizes any bad smells. Seeing is believing.
If you want to effectively remove stains from your bathtub and without damaging the enamel using harsh chemicals, try using a mixture of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and liquid soap.
To remove stains and santize the sofa, you can use sodium bicarbonate and alcohol mixed in equal parts instead of more expensive and aggressive detergents. We are obviously talking about fabrics that can be treated with alcohol - we advise you to make sure about this before trying out this tip.
If you find it difficult to degrease dishes using dishwashing liquid alone, try soaking them in water and vinegar before doing the regular washing.
And when you want to thoroughly clean a brush that is full of dust and hair, immerse it in a basin of water into which you have diluted some shampoo or shower gel. Scrub the brush with an old toothbrush and then rinse off. If you do this diligently and consistently, your brushes will always be perfectly sanitized.
