Does your furniture smell musty? There is a very simple tip you can use to make bad smells disappear

It may happen that when you open a piece of furniture - perhaps an old and neglected one in some corner of the house or a piece you got at a flea market - you are hit by an offensive smell. Humidity can cause this musty smell, but it is very easy to remedy! And this "skill" can come in very handy if you like to buy and restore second-hand furniture. And, as they say "one person's trash is another person's treasure".

It can be very disappointing, then, when our second-hand furniture "treasure" is delivered, but the piece gives off an unpleasant, musty smell. But have no fear, a remedy is near - and comes from onceuponabungalow creator Shavonne on Instagram.

You will have already guessed from above images what the technique is... and it couldn't be simpler!

You just need to get lots of sheets of newspaper - not glossy magazines, but traditional newspaper sheets. Then crumple them up a bit, , and fill the furniture's cavities with these newspaper balls. It's a bit like when we put the newspaper in our bags before putting them into storage (mainly to keep their shape, of course). Here, on the other hand, we don't have to worry about maintaining the shape of the furniture, but only making sure that the paper absorbs the bad smell.

It might take just one night - or perhaps a little longer - but that's all you have to do. When you remove the newpaper balls, the smell will be gone (and you can throw the balls away).

Watch the video below to see how easy the method is.

Additionally, you could put a couple of drops, or so, of tea tree essential oil on each ball of newspaper to scent the furniture. And of course, nothing forces you to use tea tree oil - you can use any essential oil you prefer!
