21 tips to get a perfectly tidy home in just 6 days
A house that is always perfectly tidy is everyone's dream, but for many, unfortunately, this is not possible. Thanks to the numerous commitments of daily life, work, distractions of all sorts and, last but not least, the other members of the family, it is very easy for our homes to become chaotic messes.
However, there are times when it becomes necessary to arm yourself with patience and bring the situation back under control. But what if you don't even know where to start?
We suggest below a list of tasks to be carried out daily - small tasks to be done over 7 days, one room at a time, to restore order in your home.
1. Living room
The living room is one of the rooms in the house where we spend most of our time - and, for this reason, it can be the messiest. But is equally easy to clean up by following these steps:
- Start by removing everything that does not belong in the room. Once you've identified them, return them to their rightful place.
- Gather up the newspapers and magazines; throw away old ones and place the unread ones in a special magazine rack.
- Ensure pictures on the walls are aligned and, if possible, reduce their numbers if they look cluttered.
- Create a space - perhaps near the door - where you can store keys, wallets and mail and use containers and shelves for your items: CDs, DVDs, books, USB sticks, but also plates and dishes that you don't use every day, for example.
2. The desk
In every messy home, clutter probably starts at the desk: the desk is our workplace, the area where we express our creative flair and, for this reason, it is subject to getting messy easily. Reorder the desk in a few simple steps:
- Leave only essential items above the desk; everything else can be put in the drawers.
- Separate work documents from personal ones and keep them in specially labeled containers.
- Reduce the amount of papers and documents on the desk, archiving and dividing them up in dedicated holders as soon as they hit your desk.
3. Bedroom
In the bedroom, order is essential to ensure you get quality rest:
- Ventilate the room and make the bed every morning: changing the air and keeping the bed tidy will help you get into the right mental predisposition to keep the rest of the room tidy as well.
- Keep the bedside tables free of objects as much as possible, leaving only essential items on the surfaces.
- In the children's bedrooms, keep their games organized by using dedicated containers and make sure daily that toys are not left to remain scattered all over the floor.
- If you have shelves or a bookcase in the bedroom, order the books by size or color; if, on the other hand, you have newspapers or magazines, deal with them like you did for the living room.
4. Wardrobes
Wardrobes can be kept in order with the help of dedicated containers, separators and racks to keep the garments divided by type and season;
- Hang up clothes that are delicate and try to use as few hangers as possible.
- For items that can be stored in shelves and drawers, use organizers to keep them separate and neatly arranged.
- Shoes should be stored in/on shoe racks and shelves which are independant of the wardrobe.
5. The kitchen
An organized kitchen allows us to enjoy the pleasure of preparing and consuming our meals in tranquility:
- Organize dishes and crockery, but also pans, lids and small appliances, according to their frequency of use, keeping them in the cabinets in order to save as much space as possible. Use risers, adjustable shelves and hooks for cups and utensils.
- Store food in airtight containers rather than in their original packaging - this will help you optimize space. Organize the spice and condiment cabinet in a functional way, to optimize the space available but also so that you can find what you need more easily.
- Create a corner dedicated to storing old shopping, garbage and recycling bags, preventing them from creating mess.
- Clean worktops, the oven and sink regularly - a clean look also looks tidier.
6. Maintain order over time
Now that your home is finally clean and tidy, we suggest some other tips to keep it this way:
- The very first thing to do is to involve the whole family in the task of maintaining order in the house: sharing the tasks will make them less demanding and remind everyone that you are not their maid.
- Dedicate10 minutes every evening to go around the home and put all the misplaced objects back in their proper place; this routine will yeild great results.
- You can draw up a weekly cleaning and tidying roster, which will guide you on the tasks to be carried out day-by-day.
From this moment on, your home will be as clean and tidy as a museum!
